Parent or Grandparent Sponsorship

Canada’s Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program (PGP) allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to bring their parents and grandparents to live with them as permanent residents. This program is designed to promote family reunification, enabling families to stay together and ensuring that elderly family members receive the care and support they need in Canada.

Purpose of the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program

The PGP program provides an opportunity for families to reunite and strengthen their bonds by allowing parents and grandparents to settle permanently in Canada. Sponsors commit to providing financial support, ensuring their loved ones have a stable and secure life without depending on public assistance.

Who Can Be Sponsored?

Through the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program, eligible sponsors can bring:

• Biological or Adoptive Parents: Both parents can be sponsored together if they meet eligibility requirements.

• Grandparents: Either maternal or paternal grandparents can be sponsored.

• Step-Parents: If one of the sponsor’s parents has remarried, their spouse (step-parent) may also be included.

Alternative Option: Super Visa

For those who are unable to sponsor their parents or grandparents through the PGP, Canada also offers the Super Visa, which allows multiple entries for up to 10 years with extended stays of up to 5 years per visit. This is a great alternative for families who want to have their loved ones visit for longer periods without obtaining permanent residency.
